Arintra
Arintra makes AI software that codes patient charts autonomously inside Epic and athenahealth, shows the evidence for each code, and extends into documentation review and denial appeals.
Strong fit
- Health systems and large medical groups on Epic or athenahealth with high-volume emergency, radiology, and clinic coding
- Coding leaders short on staff who want most charts coded without a coder having to touch them
- Teams that want the evidence for every code shown for audits
Weak fit
- Small practices that outsource billing
- Organizations on EHRs other than Epic and athenahealth
- Buyers who need a published price list
Bottom line
Arintra is worth using for health systems that want AI to code patient charts inside Epic or athenahealth and cut coding backlogs and cost. It suits teams that want an audit trail their coders can check. Hospitals focused mainly on catching missed inpatient diagnoses may prefer SmarterDx.
Score breakdown
Weights: Outcomes 35% · Product 30% · Implementation 20% · Pricing clarity 15%.
Arintra makes AI software that codes patient charts on its own inside Epic and athenahealth, shows the evidence for each code, and uses what it learns to prevent and appeal denials.
Nitesh Shroff and Preeti Bhargava, both computer science PhDs from the University of Maryland, founded it in 2020. Bhargava had received a $19,000 bill for an uneventful four-hour emergency room visit, and it fell to $11,000 once coding errors were fixed. Arintra went through Y Combinator in early 2022.
The software reads each note, assigns codes, and shows coders the passages behind every code, with no change to how clinicians document.
It started with high-volume outpatient specialties and now covers more than 23 specialties across clinic, emergency, diagnostic, and inpatient care. Along the way it added clinical documentation review, denial appeals, payer insights, and checks on inpatient DRG codes.
Investors and customers have followed that growth. Peak XV led a $21 million Series A in August 2025, and Define Ventures led a $25 million Series B in August 2026, with Yale New Haven Health and Endeavor Health among its investors.
Arintra handles more than $5 billion in claims a year for customers that include UC Davis Health, Rochester Regional Health, Mercyhealth, and Meritus Health. At UC Davis Health, coders audit Arintra's results about 50% faster than they could code manually.
Other tools fit different needs. CodaMetrix suits an academic health system that wants automated coding across many specialties. Fathom or Nym suit a focus on emergency department and clinic coding. SmarterDx suits catching missed diagnoses before inpatient claims go out, and MDaudit suits coding audits and revenue integrity work.

Prerequisites for purchase
| Need | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| What you need to get Arintra to function | |
| A coding or health information management leader who owns the results | This person decides which charts go straight to billing. |

| Feed denial patterns back into coding | This cuts repeat denials. |
| Deal-breakers | |
| Your EHR is not supported | |
| You have no coders to audit results | |
| Your chart volume is low | |
