Danny Freed founded Blueprint in Chicago, Illinois, in January 2019, after losing a close friend to suicide. It began as a tool that sent clients assessments between sessions and tracked their progress for the therapist.
In 2024 it launched an AI scribe that drafts progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries, and client letters from a recorded session, dictation, or a typed summary. In March 2026 it released a full EHR with scheduling, intake forms, telehealth, a client portal, and insurance billing. Its AI assistant prepares for each session and handles requests such as rescheduling a client or drafting a referral letter.
Ensemble VC and Lightbank co-led a $9 million Series A in June 2023. More than 70,000 mental health professionals use Blueprint, and its scribe has processed more than 350 million session minutes. Licensed mental health professionals make up nearly 20% of its staff.
Other tools fit different practices. ICANotes suits a psychiatric practice that wants menu-driven notes and e-prescribing at a published price. Valant suits an outpatient practice or intensive outpatient program that wants progress tracking and AI notes. Kipu Health or Sunwave suit a residential treatment center that needs admissions and census tools.
