Ultromics

Ross Upton is a cardiovascular scientist and the founder and chief executive of Ultromics, an Oxford, England, company whose EchoGo software reads routine heart ultrasound scans and flags patients likely to have hard-to-spot forms of heart failure. He built the first version of its technology as a doctoral student at the University of Oxford.

Doctoral Research at Oxford

He completed four degrees in the clinical sciences, the last a PhD at the University of Oxford. There he worked with his supervisor, Paul Leeson, on an algorithm to overcome the limits of echocardiography, the heart ultrasound exam, and that research became the basis for Ultromics.

Founding Ultromics

Ultromics spun out of Oxford in 2017 with him as chief executive, and in 2019 he was on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list for science and healthcare. He led the development of EchoGo and the company's $55 million Series C in 2025. "By analyzing routine echocardiograms with AI, we're helping clinicians identify high-risk patients earlier, enabling intervention before disease progresses," he said.
