Caregility

Ron Gaboury is chief executive of Caregility, a Wall Township, New Jersey, company that makes telehealth systems for virtual nursing and patient observation in hospitals. He also runs Yorktel, the video communications company where Caregility began, and oversaw the 2019 spinout.

Leading Yorktel

As chief executive of Yorktel, a communications systems integrator founded by York Wang, he helped build its position in videoconferencing. Yorktel moved into medical technology in 2007 by buying a company that worked on smart operating rooms. Several years later a virtual hospital company asked it for a telehealth system that could hang on a wall, and Yorktel built one and sold it under its own name.

Spinning Out Caregility

The new customers were clinical, and serving them meant hiring people with skills Yorktel did not have, so Caregility spun out in September 2019. "We transferred 20 people from Yorktel, but there are more than 125 employees now," he said in 2024. He compares in-room cameras to oxygen: hospitals put oxygen in every room because patients might need it, and he expects them to treat telehealth the same way. "We are not replacing nurses. The nurses love it," he said.
