Manipal Dhariwal is co-founder and chief executive of CareSmartz360, a cloud suite home care agencies use for caregiver scheduling, electronic visit verification, billing, and payroll.
From Kilimanjaro to Rochester
He was born in India to a Punjabi family, and when he was seven the family moved to Tanzania, where he grew up at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro and attended an international school. After the International Baccalaureate he moved to the United States to study computer engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, where an internship at Johnson & Johnson gave him early industry experience.
Netsmartz and the Mohali Bet
He started his career at ABB and spent evenings building software with his brother, and in September 1999 those side projects became Netsmartz. Two years later the brothers opened in Mohali, India, a city with little technology infrastructure, choosing their first office partly because an internet provider was next door. He spent weekends recruiting engineers in Delhi, India, and in Bengaluru, and the Netsmartz Group went on to back more than 500 startups through its accelerator.
Building CareSmartz360
In 2016 the team met a home care franchisor buried in disconnected software, and no single product covered its scheduling, billing, and paperwork. That gap became CareSmartz360, which he co-founded with Manjeet Dhariwal and built for private-duty agencies, franchises, and larger providers.
