Collectly

Levon Brutyan is co-founder and chief executive of Collectly. Collectly makes software for medical billing teams. Its software contacts patients about what they owe and keeps a record of who responds.

Running Collections in Europe

He trained in law and business and holds a J.D. and an MBA. Before founding Collectly he was managing director of a collections agency in Europe, where he watched the standard cycle up close: agencies mail a letter, mail another when nobody answers, then start calling, and after a few quiet weeks begin again. The longer a bill sits unpaid, the less likely it is to be paid at all.

Starting Collectly with Max Mizotin

In 2017 he founded Collectly with Max Mizotin, a machine learning specialist who built its software. That winter the company joined Y Combinator. Its software tracks how each debtor responds and adjusts how and when to reach out, and early on it focused on medical debt. Collectly now sells to healthcare organizations from San Francisco, California. "Please don't be a stranger and reach out," he wrote to other Y Combinator founders, offering help with credit risk, health finance, and B2B sales. In the same note he calls himself a musician, a father, and a happy husband.
