Juraj Chrappa
Co-founder and CEO
Upheal
Juraj Chrappa is the co-founder and chief executive of Upheal, a company whose AI software drafts therapy notes and runs an EHR for mental health practices. He is Slovak and has long worked in the Czech Republic, and he started Upheal after therapists helped him through a period of severe burnout.
Building Products at Productboard
Chrappa spent more than ten years building technology products. At Productboard, a product management software company, he built up the product team and served as product director.
A Turn Toward Therapists
When his son was diagnosed with a brain tumor, Chrappa burned out while trying to keep up with a demanding career, and therapists helped him through it. Afterward he saw how stretched those therapists were, and he knew where his work should go: "I'd spent my career building technology. For the first time, I knew exactly who I wanted to build it for."
Founding Upheal
He spent more than a year interviewing mental health professionals and found tools in which submitting a claim took three times as long as writing the note. He co-founded Upheal in 2021 with Martin Horváth, a fellow Slovak, and they made privacy a priority from the first day, with session recordings deleted by default.
Growing Upheal
Upheal grew from AI notes into a full EHR with scheduling, payments, and insurance billing. Headline led its $10 million Series A in November 2024, when more than 36,000 mental health professionals had access to it. He states the split of work simply: "Therapists should be doing the clinical work. Software should be doing the rest."
