Chad McClennan is founder, president, and chief executive of Koios Medical, whose Smart Ultrasound software gives radiologists an AI read on breast and thyroid ultrasound images to help decide whether a lump needs a biopsy.
Early FDA Clearances
He has led Koios since July 2017. In July 2019 the company received its second FDA 510(k) clearance, for Koios DS Breast 2.0, which aligns a machine-generated probability of cancer with the standard BI-RADS category. "Smart ultrasound is a second set of eyes that achieves what was previously unthinkable," he said at the time.
Expanding to Thyroid and Partners
In December 2021 Koios received FDA clearance for Koios DS covering both thyroid and breast cancer, built on ultrasound data from 48 sites around the world. In September 2025 RamSoft, a Toronto, Canada, imaging software company, signed a distribution agreement that put Koios inside its radiology system.
