Founder and CEO
First Health Advisory
Carter Groome is the chief executive of First Health Advisory, a healthcare cybersecurity firm that helps hospitals and federal agencies secure their systems and medical devices. He helped found the firm and has led it since 2010, after a career in healthcare IT that began at Adventist HealthCare.
Starting in Hospital IT
Groome studied health science at the University of Arizona and later earned an MBA at Johns Hopkins University. He held IT management roles at Adventist HealthCare, then spent five years as an applications and integration program manager and consultant with First Choice Consulting.
Founding First Health
He was director of business development at Park City Solutions before helping found First Health, where he first served as executive vice president for sales, marketing, and strategy. He became chief executive in 2010.
Turning to Medical Device Security
The firm began with technology integration for health systems, moving data from EHRs and specialty systems to where it was needed. As devices joined hospital networks, that work exposed their security gaps, and in his words, "clinical asset risk and assisting our clients understand how best to reduce that risk emerged as a prominent service, leading us to where our focus is today."
Working With the American Hospital Association
First Health Advisory is one of the AHA's preferred cybersecurity and risk providers. Groome joined John Riggi, the AHA's national advisor for cybersecurity and risk, on its podcast to talk about tying cybersecurity to business priorities and moving from finding risks to fixing them.
