Earning an Electrical Engineering PhD
He earned bachelor's degrees in computer engineering and electrical engineering, and a master's degree in electrical engineering, from the University of California, Irvine, in Irvine, California. He earned a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Leading Prenosis
He has led Prenosis from its start: the company vision, the team, clinical partnerships, and fundraising. Prenosis is an artificial intelligence company for precision medicine in acute care. He had spent more than a decade on early screening tools for serious disease and on sitting with hospital staff to see which problems software could take on.
In April 2024 the Food and Drug Administration granted marketing authorization for Sepsis ImmunoScore through the De Novo pathway. It is AI software, regulated as a medical device, meant to speed the diagnosis of sepsis and to predict how the illness will go. Sepsis is hard to catch early, and that authorization was the first the agency had given an AI diagnostic for it.
