Infinitus

Ankit Jain is co-founder and chief executive of Infinitus, a California company. Infinitus builds voice agents that stay on the phone with an insurer for a benefit check or a prior authorization, so clinic staff do not have to hold.

Google Play and Quettra

He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, in an entrepreneurial household. After graduate school he joined a search startup that Google bought, and at Google he helped launch Google Play and led much of its engineering. In 2013 he left to found Quettra, a mobile intelligence startup that SimilarWeb later bought, and in 2017 he returned to Google as a director of engineering in AI and helped start Gradient Ventures, its AI venture fund.

Seeing Google Duplex

In 2018 he was at Google when the company showed Duplex, software that could call a spa or a restaurant and book the appointment. He mentioned it to his wife, Shailvi, who had spent years in healthcare. "So you're telling me these brilliant engineers built a machine that can talk and decided to automate spa reservations?" she asked. He called Shyam Rajagopalan, a longtime collaborator. Before quitting their jobs they placed a recorded test call to UnitedHealthcare, asking for benefits on behalf of Bruce Willis. The first agent hung up, and the second stayed on the line. "It was that moment of inspiration that made us go, there's something real here. Let's go build it," he said. They founded Infinitus in 2019.

The voice agents and copilots run on several models plus a knowledge graph Infinitus keeps of commercial and government insurance rules, so a call can follow the payer's current policy. He said that in 2024 the longest call the company handled lasted 3 hours and 15 minutes and ran 306 turns. He also said the agents support 44 percent of the Fortune 50 and touch the workflows of more than 125,000 providers.
