My Mountain Mover

Amanda Ketcham is chief executive of My Mountain Mover, which places remote virtual assistants from the Philippines inside U.S. clinics for reception, billing, and similar desk work. She was 22 and fresh out of college when her employer asked her to start the company.

Daughter of a Nurse

She is the oldest of three girls, and she grew up as the daughter of a nurse, watching paperwork follow her mother home after patient visits. She graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz and started her career in marketing.

Starting the Company at 22

In 2020 she was working for a man she calls a serial entrepreneur. "He came into my office one day and said, I need you to stop everything you're doing and start this company for me," she said. "I kind of looked at him and was like, are you sure? This seems a little crazy." The company connects U.S. practices with Filipino medical virtual assistants trained for HIPAA work, and the pandemic opened clinics to remote staff.

She now works mostly with orthodontic and dental practices, and she treats staffing as a question of capacity. "The beauty of hiring a virtual assistant is that you don't need any office space for them," she said. "You don't have to worry about human resources, payroll or taxes." In 2026 Modern Healthcare added her to its 40 Under 40.
