Alex LeBrun
Co-founder, Executive Chairman and Chief AI Officer
Nabla
Alex LeBrun is co-founder, executive chairman, and chief AI officer of Nabla, which drafts the clinical note from the exam-room conversation so a clinician does not type it. He previously built Wit.ai, which Facebook acquired, and spent three and a half years at Facebook, including at its AI research lab in Paris, France.
Selling Wit.ai to Facebook
He had been chief executive of his own companies for 14 years, and Nuance had acquired one of them, when Facebook acquired Wit.ai. A November 2014 meeting with David Marcus led to the acquisition, and he had nearly deleted an email from Mark Zuckerberg as a scam. Wit.ai, a tool developers use to build conversational software, stayed open. Five years after a Hacker News launch it was still free and used by 180,000 developers.
Building the Paris AI Lab
In 2016 he moved to Paris and joined Facebook AI Research to help build the European lab, working alongside Yann LeCun. He left Facebook after three and a half years and co-founded Nabla in Paris with Martin Raison, a Wit.ai colleague, and Delphine Groll. Moustapha Cissé advised the start. The first office was in the Marais.
Founding Nabla
The 2018 plan was broad, applying AI inside ordinary businesses. By 2023 the company had narrowed. Nabla first tried to help doctors diagnose, then shifted to clinical documentation because diagnosis was the part of the job doctors liked and notes were the part they hated. Nabla Copilot writes the note automatically, with no human scribe behind it.
Leading AMI Labs
In 2026 he left the chief executive role at Nabla to run Advanced Machine Intelligence, the research company Yann LeCun founded, which formed an exclusive partnership with Nabla. "Yann has believed in Nabla since the beginning, investing in us and championing our approach from day one," he said. On July 21, 2026, Nabla appointed Brian Manning chief executive, and LeBrun stayed on as executive chairman and chief AI officer, leading its long-term AI strategy and model development.
