Availity vs Stedi
Updated October 22, 2026
Every practice and billing company has to check coverage and send claims to dozens of insurers, and the tool that connects them to payers shapes how much of that work a person still does by hand. Availity and Stedi both sit in that spot, and the main divide between them is who does the work: Availity gives billing staff one portal in place of many payer websites, while Stedi gives engineers APIs so software can do the checks and submissions itself. A team that works in portals will lean toward Availity, and a team with engineers on staff will get more from Stedi.
Our analysts compared Availity and Stedi on price, how staff use each tool, prior authorization, buyer fit, and setup, using the HIR review of each company and each vendor's own site checked today. In the following sections, we compare them in one table, describe the buyer each one suits, and list what Stedi has released this month.
